The Curlew Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss. They lost to Republic at home by a decisive 67-52 margin. Curlew lost against Republic in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 77-38 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Curlew lost, one person who can't be blamed is Logan Thompson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Harleigh Ciais Anderson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Curlew's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Republic, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Curlew will square off against Cusick at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cusick knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten contests -- so hopefully Curlew likes a good challenge. As for Republic, they will head out on the road to face off against Selkirk at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Selkirk is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
