The Canyon del Oro Dorados will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Nogales Apaches at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Canyon del Oro will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Canyon del Oro and Tucson High Magnet School meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. Canyon del Oro came out on top against Tucson High Magnet School by a score of 6-3.

Regen Mazura was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Carson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Nogales was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They skirted past Sunnyside 4-2. The victory continues a trend for the Apaches in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won seven in a row.
Manny DelaCruz looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Sammy Herrera was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Luis Diego Jacquez, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Nogales hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sunnyside struck out seven times.
Canyon del Oro's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Nogales, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3-1.
Canyon del Oro came out on top in a nail-biter against Nogales when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Will Canyon del Oro repeat their success, or does Nogales have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
