For the second straight game, Millbrook will face off against Broughton. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Capitals at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Millbrook's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Broughton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Tuesday, Millbrook came up short against Broughton and fell 6-3. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
For Broughton's part, Mason Hawkins made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Hawkins has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Cooper Wall looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Hawkins wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Garrett Waters, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave Waters a new career-high. Weston Rhem was another, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
The victory was the fourth in a row for Broughton, bringing their record up to 7-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Millbrook, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Millbrook's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Wildcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Broughton, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Millbrook continue to outrun the ball?
