The Jefferson Area Falcons gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They secured a 29-24 W over Lakeview. This was payback for Jefferson Area, who suffered a 32-24 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Jefferson Area's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mia Contenza, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Kennidie Rogers was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Lakeview's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annabelle Humphrey, who scored 5 points along with 6 steals and 5 rebounds. Humphrey is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Izzy Haines, who scored 8 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lakeview struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Jefferson Area racked up 11.
Jefferson Area's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Lakeview, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Jefferson Area will take on Grand Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lakeview, they will head out on the road to face off against Ursuline at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
