Football Recap: Jesuit Skates Past Middleton with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Jesuit). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Middleton 63-7. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 56-0.

A big part of Jesuit's victory came down to the chemistry between Will Griffin and his top target Mikey Vernon. Griffin threw for 278 yards and five touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes while Vernon picked up 171 receiving yards and three TDs. Those 171 receiving yards gave Vernon a new career-high.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Jesuit proved: they limited Middleton to a paltry 3.5 yards per carry. While two picked up at least eight total tackles, Nolan Dooly stood above the rest. He made eight total tackles and snagged an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Jesuit didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.6.

Jesuit didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tripp Keller and Dooly. Dooly also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Jesuit pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 5.6 points on average this season. As for Middleton, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Jesuit has already played their next game, a 57-7 win against Brandon on the 17th. As for Middleton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 35-26 defeat against Newsome on the 17th.
