Elkhorn South is 9-1 against Millard North since September of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Storm will head out to challenge the Mustangs. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
On Tuesday, Elkhorn South didn't have quite enough to beat Lincoln North Star and fell 3-2.
Elkhorn South took Lincoln North Star into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 23-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-8.
Meanwhile, Millard North and Millard South faced off in a cross-town battle on Thursday. The Mustangs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Millard South scored at least 17 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 25-17.
Elkhorn South will have to keep a close watch on Hayden Sliva and Ava Whitmarsh, a pair of players who had a big impact on Millard North's prior game. Sliva had 18 digs, while Whitmarsh had 15 digs and two assists.
Millard North's loss ended a four-match streak of away wins and brought them to 11-12. As for Elkhorn South, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-10.
Elkhorn South came out on top in a nail-biter against Millard North in their previous meeting back in August, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Storm repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
