Seneca Valley is a perfect 8-0 against Canon-McMillan since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Raiders will challenge the Big Macs at 4:15 p.m. Seneca Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Seneca Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Pennsylvania's top teams: Hempfield Area, who was ranked sixth at the time (Seneca Valley was ranked 21st). The Raiders narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Spartans 2-1. Winning may never get old, but the Raiders sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Lexie Hames spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Seneca Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Neve Miller, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Miller a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Canon-McMillan owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They blew past Butler 6-0. The victory continues a trend for the Big Macs in their matchups with the Golden Tornado: they've now won six in a row.
The result came thanks to Brooke Bumer's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sophia Carl, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aurora Shirdon, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Canon-McMillan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Butler only posted a batting average of .125.
Seneca Valley's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Canon-McMillan, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Seneca Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 14.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Canon-McMillan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Seneca Valley's way against Canon-McMillan in their previous meeting on April 9th, as Seneca Valley made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
