The Midway Green Wave will be playing in front of their home fans against the Monterey Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Midway and 11 for Monterey.
On January 2nd, Midway opened the new year with a less-than-successful 61-48 loss to Oliver Springs.
Monterey suffered their biggest loss since December 22, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 80-57 loss at the hands of Jackson County. Monterey has not had much luck with Jackson County recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Monterey saw an underclassman step up: Aiden Roberson-Barber scored 28 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Roberson-Barber continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gustavo Galindez, who scored six points along with two steals.
Midway has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Monterey, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-19.
Midway came up short against Monterey in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 66-54. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Roberson-Barber, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
