The Hopkinton Hillers will head out on the road to challenge the Norton Lancers at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopkinton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Hopkinton had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Norwood on Monday. The Hillers blew past the Mustangs 9-2.
Ryan Lang looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nick Pedroli was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Ruff, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Norton not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 15, 2024. They put the hurt on Dover-Sherborn with a sharp 7-1 victory. The game was the first time the Lancers have beaten the Raiders on their field since May 12, 2021.
The team relied heavily on Quinn Murphy, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Pace Ribeiro, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Norton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dover-Sherborn only posted a batting average of .083.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-2. As for Norton, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hopkinton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Norton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Hopkinton's way against Norton in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Hopkinton made off with a 10-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hillers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
