Apollo is a perfect 4-0 against West Point since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Dragons at 3:45 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
On Thursday, Apollo made easy work of Shadow Ridge and carried off an 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Jesus Beltran spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Diego Ramos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Roberto Quinones also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Apollo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, West Point entered their tilt with Marana on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 9-2 win. The Dragons not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th (when they won 10-0).
Adrian Navarro made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because West Point is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-10-1 otherwise. Navarro was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Navarro wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kenyer Martinez, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-3. Martinez also scored two runs, which is notable because West Point is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-11-1 otherwise. Another was Jacob Gonzalez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Apollo's record now sits at 16-6. As for West Point, their record is now 10-11-1.
Apollo took their victory against West Point in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
