Clarksville is a perfect 10-0 against Northwest since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will host the Vikings at 5:30 p.m. Clarksville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Clarksville needed a bit of extra time to put away Montgomery Central. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Indians. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Kalea Masigat and Johanna Williams dominated on the mound. Masigat pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits, while Williams pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Williams has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on MacKenzie White, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Windham, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northwest, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Varsity Opponent with a sharp 13-1 victory on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Vikings as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
May Barnholtz and Isabella Coon made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Barnholtz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Coon tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Barnholtz posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. At the plate, Barnholtz went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Coon got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Tavasia Buckley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Chela Lassus was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Northwest's victory bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Clarksville, their win bumped their record up to 13-8.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Clarksville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .460. However, it's not like Northwest struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Clarksville took their victory against Northwest in their previous meeting on April 11th by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
