The Williamsburg Blue Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Moshannon Valley Black Knights/Damsels at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Moshannon Valley will be up against a hot Williamsburg squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Blue Pirates' pitchers stepped up to hand Glendale a 12-0 shutout on Thursday. Surprisingly, this marked the Blue Pirates' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Preston Long and Jase McCall were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Long pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, McCall tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Long posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. At bat, Long went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while McCall got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases. McCall has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Brantner, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ty McCall also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Moshannon Valley). They were the clear victors by a 19-9 margin over Southern Huntingdon County on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Black Knights/Damsels considering their one-run performance the game before.
Like Williamsburg, Moshannon Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Rocco Reifer. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Reifer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Moshannon Valley: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 0-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Valent Cervenak was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mason Abernethy, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Moshannon Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .711. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Moshannon Valley's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Williamsburg, their record now sits at 6-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Williamsburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Moshannon Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Williamsburg skirted past Moshannon Valley 4-3 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
