The Sabinal Yellowjackets had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They strolled past D'Hanis with points to spare, taking the game 63-46. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Sabinal also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Sabinal's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joseph Contreras, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Contreras set a new season high mark in blocks with four. The team also got some help courtesy of Tre Morgan, who scored 20 points.
When it comes to explaining why D'Hanis lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gabe Perez. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points along with nine rebounds. The game was Perez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Ruger Cote was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds.
Sabinal has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season. As for D'Hanis, they have fallen quite a ways from their 24-6 record last season and are now at 2-4.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing South San Antonio West the next time they take the court. D'Hanis will head out to face South San Antonio West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Sabinal will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
