After each having a week off, the Shadow Ridge Stallions and the Williams Field Black Hawks will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Shadow Ridge has given up an average of 29.8 points per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Shadow Ridge is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 34 points back in September, they were much more limited against Brophy College Prep last Friday. They were beaten by the Broncos 43-7. The game marked the Stallions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Shadow Ridge's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Joel Cooper, who rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries, and Michael Cruz, who gained 134 total yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Williams Field). They strolled past Boulder Creek with points to spare last Friday, taking the game 52-35. With that win, the Black Hawks brought their scoring average up to 29.5 points per game.
Williams Field's win came from a few key players Shadow Ridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dominick Barjona, who threw for 167 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 39 yards and one score. Courshawn Hill was another key back, rushing for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Williams Field proved: they limited Boulder Creek to a paltry three yards per carry. The team can thank Elijah Sanchez for the heroic effort on defense: he. Williams Field didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.4.
The victory made it two in a row for Williams Field and bumps their season record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games. As for Shadow Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Shadow Ridge has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 175.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Williams Field struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 184.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
