Mt. Pleasant took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Derry, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Mt. Pleasant came out on top in a nail-biter against Derry on Thursday, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Vikings have posted against the Trojans since April 25, 2019.

Cole Chatfield was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Levi Hixon and Dane Firmstone did most of the damage at the plate: Hixon got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, while Firmstone went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was Firmstone's first of the season.
Mt. Pleasant kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Deer Lakes got the win against Southmoreland on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-4. With that win, the Lancers brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Like Mt. Pleasant, Deer Lakes also got a great game from a two-way player: Anthony Smith. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, Smith gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Noah Shurina was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Deer Lakes' victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2. As for Mt. Pleasant, their win bumped their record up to 4-2-2.
Deer Lakes' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Mt. Pleasant has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. It's a different story for Deer Lakes, though, as they've only averaged .339. Will they be able to contain Mt. Pleasant's hitters?
Mt. Pleasant might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Deer Lakes in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Can Mt. Pleasant avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
