Basketball Recap: Alaina Boos' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ashley over Topsail

Ashley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-34 heartbreaker at the hands of the Topsail Pirates. The Screaming Eagle were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Ashley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alaina Boos, who posted six points and three steals. Those three steals gave Boos a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Palyn Everhart, who had six points and three steals.

Topsail's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Lambert led the charge by putting up eight points along with seven boards and five steals. Lambert is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Riley Trimble was another key player, earning 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Ashley's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Topsail, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home.

Ashley has already played their next contest, a 48-39 loss against New Hanover on the 31st. As for Topsail, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 55-43 win against West Brunswick on the 31st.
