It was another big night for Shamira Morton, who dropped a triple-double on 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 12 blocks. Morton is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amya Hunter, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 10 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Gentry won against Greenville on Friday with 54 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Monday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, Gentry made off with a 54-53 victory over Holmes County Central.
Canton better keep an eye on Zion Brown. She was instrumental in Gentry's win, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 15 boards. Those 25 points gave Brown a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Za'Kensly Yarbor, who posted 15 points and seven rebounds.
Gentry was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Canton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. As for Gentry, the win got them back to even at 12-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Canton has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 34.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Gentry struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything went Canton's way against Gentry when the teams last played back in January, as Canton made off with a 50-30 victory. In that matchup, Canton amassed a halftime lead of 29-5, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
