Southern Connecticut Division I - West recap Sept. 26, 2012
Amity Regional's James Semmonella recorded the longest rushing play in Southern Connecticut Division I - West this season in his game against Sheehan last week. Semmonella's team bested the Titans as he sprinted for 83 yards on the play and finished with 172 in all.
Fairfield Prep was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Jesuits beat East Haven 47-0 earlier in the week.
Shelton's dynamic duo of Mark Piccirillo and Kyle Drost proved tough for Foran to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Piccirillo threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns and Drost had 104 yards receiving. Eddie Kochiss helped Shelton's passing attack out by catching four balls for 51 yards.
The Gaels' Piccirillo and Drost have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Piccirillo has thrown for 273 yards this season, while Drost has seven catches for 99 yards. Semmonella from Amity Regional leads the league in rushing with 245 yards.
The top two teams in Southern Connecticut Division I - West will face off this week when first place Xavier takes on second place Fairfield Prep. Xavier defeated North Haven last week, while Fairfield Prep bested the Yellowjackets.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Falcons take on Tom Shea's team. Xavier has allowed 12 points this season, while the Jesuits have given up zero. Sean Marinan's team allowed 12 points last week as it beat the Indians.
Shelton suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 31-8 loss to Shelton. Jeff Roy's team had been ranked 25th, but fell to 42 following the defeat.
