After flying high against the Lake Brantley Patriots last Friday, The Apopka Blue Darters came back down to earth. Apopka was dealt a 49-21 loss at the hands of Lake Mary on Friday. While losing is never fun, Apopka can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 55th, while Lake Mary is ranked eighth).
Leading Lake Mary to victory were Noah Grubbs and Isaiah Thomas. Grubbs threw for 367 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per attempt, while Thomas gained 145 total yards and four touchdowns. Grubbs is on a roll when it comes to passing yards, as he's now passed for 300 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Carson Friedman, who picked up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Apopka's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Lake Mary, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apopka will take on Evans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lake Mary, they will head out on the road to face off against Seminole at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Seminole is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
