Basketball Game Preview: South Brunswick Cougars vs. North Brunswick Scorpions

South Brunswick is on a three-game streak of home losses, North Brunswick a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The South Brunswick Cougars will host the North Brunswick Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Last Tuesday, South Brunswick lost to Laney on the road by a 48-34 margin.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Meryn Deutsch, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in blocks (two). Aubree Adams was another key player, putting up three points along with six boards and three blocks.

Meanwhile, North Brunswick played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by New Hanover 48-17. The Scorpions were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-4.

Ayanna Meyers was North Brunswick's leading scorer, having posted 11 points. Meyers also led the team in rebounds with nine.

North Brunswick's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for South Brunswick, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: South Brunswick has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like North Brunswick struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

South Brunswick was able to grind out a solid win over North Brunswick in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 39-30. Does South Brunswick have another victory up their sleeve, or will North Brunswick turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
