Sumner-Eddyville-Miller stacked a 13th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 61-31 win over Twin Loup at home. Given Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Twin Loup is ranked 248th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sumner-Eddyville-Miller to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mikah O'Neill, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. O'Neill hasn't dropped below 16 points for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaycelyn Hoos, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Overton had already won 16 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points), and they went ahead and made it 17 on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 43-29 win over Wilcox-Hildreth. That's two games straight that Overton has won by exactly 14 points.
Overton can attribute much of their success to Natalie Wood, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Jolee Ryan, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Wood hasn't dropped below 11 rebounds for six straight games.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller's win bumped their record up to 19-2. As for Overton, their win bumped their record up to 21-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sumner-Eddyville-Miller have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Sumner-Eddyville-Miller ended up a good deal behind Overton in their previous meeting on Saturday, losing 69-55. Can Sumner-Eddyville-Miller avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
