The Cactus Shadows Falcons will be playing at home against the Agua Fria Owls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Cactus Shadows is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
Last Friday, Cactus Shadows was beaten by Horizon 42-14. Cactus Shadows was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.
Despite the defeat, Cactus Shadows saw an underclassman step up: Donivan Dixon rushed for 108 yards on only nine carries, and also threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Noah Brouse was another key contributor, picking up 71 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Agua Fria took a serious blow against Apollo on Friday, falling 55-22. While losing is never fun, Agua Fria can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 105th, while Apollo is ranked 31st).
Cactus Shadows' defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-6. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 Higley and 6-3 American Leadership Academy - Gilbert North (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 69.4% over those games). As for Agua Fria, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.
Everything came up roses for Cactus Shadows against Agua Fria when the teams last played back in November of 2020 as the squad secured a 33-0 win. Will Cactus Shadows repeat their success, or does Agua Fria have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
