MaxPreps is pleased to announce that the
Burlington (Vt.) Seahorses have officially been named to the 12th Annual MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its sixth year honoring boys soccer.
This is one of the most prestigious team awards in all of high school sports and it is an exclusive honor reserved for the top 100 teams nationwide. In order to be eligible, a team must win a state championship and be highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings. For soccer, only 20 of the country's best are invited and with nearly 34,000 competing varsity teams. This puts the Seahorses ahead of 99.9 percent of their opponents!
No. 2 Burlington boys soccer defeated No. 1 seeded Essex High School in an improbable 1-0
VPA Division I state final win on Friday, Nov. 5 at Buck Hard Field. Seraphin Iradukunka's second half goal and Burlington's indestructible defensive line led the team to its first state championship since 2008.
Under the leadership of head coach Fran Demasi, the team followed up their 13-1 regular season with three shutout wins over No. 15 North Country Union (6-0), No. 7 St. Johnsbury Academy and No. 3 Champlain Valley Union (1-0 OT) before the final 1-0 win over No. 1 Essex.
Burlington boys soccer finished the season with an overall 17-1 record, ranked
No. 1 in the state and highly ranked in the
MaxPreps National Rankings.
These incredible season achievements have earned the Burlington Seahorses an invitation to the 12th Annual Tour of Champions.
Please join us as we celebrate with the boys soccer team, coaching staff, students and fans on Friday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. during a school assembly in the main lobby.
