Basketball Game Preview: Victory Christian Vikings vs. Westlake Charter Explorers

The Victory Christian Vikings and the Westlake Charter Explorers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Victory Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came up short against Valley Christian on Thursday, falling 100-80. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (69), the Vikings still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Victory Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Luke Smith posted 28 points. Smith's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Kapelkin, who put up 13 points.

Meanwhile, Westlake Charter hadn't done well against Leroy Greene Academy recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Westlake Charter put the hurt on Leroy Greene Academy with a sharp 69-43 victory. The Explorers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 26 points or more this season.

Westlake Charter found their leader in freshman Daison Baily, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Baily has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jet Cumberland, who had ten points and four steals.

Victory Christian's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-1. As for Westlake Charter, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Victory Christian hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 67.5 points per game. However, it's not like Westlake Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 61.5 points.
