The St. Joseph D Defenders waltzed into their game Saturday with three straight wins dating back to last season but they left with four. Everything went their way against Cornerstone Family as St. Joseph D made off with a 55-34 victory. That's another feather in the cap for St. Joseph D, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Cornerstone Family's loss came despite strong showings from Kaylee Heinen and Liz Brown. Heinen scored 15 points along with six steals and five rebounds, while Brown dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Heinen scored a full 44.1% of Cornerstone Family's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, Cornerstone Family were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
St. Joseph D's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Cornerstone Family, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-2.
St. Joseph D will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Blue Ridge Christian at 5:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Cornerstone Family will be home for the holidays to greet Onaga at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Onaga is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
