The Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets will head out to challenge the Hayes Pacers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mt. Vernon had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Zanesville on Thursday. The Yellowjackets blew past the Blue Devils 11-1. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Yellowjackets yet this season.

Zac Clow was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Clow was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Camden Firebaugh looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Carter Castlemen, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Dammon Wolfe was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hayes, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 12-8 win over Worthington Kilbourne on Wednesday. The Pacers haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Hayes' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Vernon, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
Mt. Vernon came out on top in a nail-biter against Hayes in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
