The South Bend St. Joseph Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They suffered a tough 51-25 defeat at the hands of Elkhart. While losing is never fun, South Bend St. Joseph can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 238th, while Elkhart is ranked 109th).
Despite the defeat, South Bend St. Joseph saw an underclassman step up: Kayla Woods scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 48% of South Bend St. Joseph's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
South Bend St. Joseph has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Elkhart, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Bend St. Joseph will take on Lighthouse College Prep Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elkhart, they will head out on the road to square off against Mishawaka Marian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
