It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but John Paul the Great Academy had no problem doing just that on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Midstate Homeschool Storm 64-6. Fans of the Guardians have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Riley Lormand had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 236 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries. His longest rush was for an incredible 87 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Guidry, who rushed for 91 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: John Paul the Great Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 458 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August.
Another reason for the win was John Paul the Great Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 5.5 sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Maximus Stewart and Dominic Cramer, who racked up 4.5 sacks between them. Cramer is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last four games he's played.
John Paul the Great Academy's victory bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Midstate Homeschool, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.
