The Cottonwood Colts entered their tilt with the Hillcrest Huskies with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. Cottonwood walked away with a 59-51 victory over Hillcrest on Wednesday. That's another feather in the cap for Cottonwood, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Peter Oguama continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Christopher Cox, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Hillcrest's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damani Wilkerson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Tanner, who scored 11 points along with two blocks.
Cottonwood pushed their record up to 16-5 with that victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.7 points per game. As for Hillcrest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.
Cottonwood will head out on the road to take on Stansbury at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cottonwood knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Stansbury likes a good challenge. As for Hillcrest, they will be playing at home against Tooele at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hillcrest is facing Tooele at the right time seeing as Tooele is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
