This season hasn't been kind to the Santa Rita Eagles, who are still winless after their tenth matchup. They were beaten by Morenci 57-23 on Tuesday. Santa Rita has not had much luck with Morenci recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Leading Morenci to victory were Elena Leonard and Tiara Jones. Leonard scored 13 points along with four steals, while Jones scored ten points along with nine rebounds. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayeli Salazar, who scored 11 points.
Santa Rita bumped their record down to 0-10 with that loss, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Morenci, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Santa Rita will head out on the road to face off against Santa Cruz Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Santa Cruz Valley is ranked 246th, while Santa Rita is ranked 268th). Morenci will be home for the holidays to greet Benson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Benson will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
