The Cedartown Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northwest Whitfield Bruins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Cedartown's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last three games.
Last Friday, Cedartown never let their opponents score. They blew past Southeast Whitfield County 49-0 on the road. Given Cedartown's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Southeast Whitfield County is ranked 423rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cedartown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drew Ledbetter led the charge by throwing for 154 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Ledbetter hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tae Harris, who gained 76 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Northwest Whitfield was the victim of a rough 42-20 defeat at the hands of Central on Friday. It was the first time this season that Northwest Whitfield let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Northwest Whitfield saw an underclassman step up: Gavin Nuckolls rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 195 yards and a touchdown.
Cedartown is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. As for Northwest Whitfield, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 6-3.
Everything came up roses for Cedartown against Northwest Whitfield in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 53-13 win. Does Cedartown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northwest Whitfield turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
