Basketball Recap: Sparta Academy Takes a Loss

Sparta Academy played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 63-40 to the Escambia Academy Cougars. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Sparta Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Koltin Barlow went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Barlow has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jud Robinson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

Sparta Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Escambia Academy, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Sparta Academy and Snook Christian Academy will face off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for Escambia Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oak Park Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Escambia Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Oak Park Christian likes a good challenge.
