West Stanly is 0-5 against Monroe since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The West Stanly Colts will head out on the road to face off against the Monroe Redhawks at 7:00 p.m. West Stanly will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 202nd, while Monroe is ranked 17th).
Last Friday, West Stanly came up short against Anson and fell 22-14.
The losing side was boosted by Rene Salazar, who rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Monroe had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 39 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They didn't even let Piedmont onto the board and left with a 58-0 victory. The result was nothing new for Monroe, who have now won seven matches by 28 points or more so far this season.
Monroe can attribute much of their success to Kaegan Chambers, who rushed for 22 yards and a touchdown, and Zachariah Melton, who gained 109 total yards and two touchdowns. Gavin Davis made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
West Stanly's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Monroe, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1.
West Stanly was taken down by Monroe 61-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can West Stanly avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
