The Laurel Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 57-50 to Great Mills. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Laurel has scored all season.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jermaine Taylor, who scored 15 points. Great Mills got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Vontez Culpepper out in front who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Culpepper continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jermaine Davis, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.
Laurel's defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-4. As for Great Mills, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

As for Great Mills, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against McDonough at 6:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (McDonough is ranked 69th, while Great Mills is ranked 47th).
