SouthWest Edgecombe has won seven straight games at home, while North Johnston has won seven straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Cougars will host the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (SouthWest Edgecombe 2.6, North Johnston 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
SouthWest Edgecombe barely beat West Craven the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars beat the Eagles on Tuesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-3. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.
Chase Taylor was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Logan Webb was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 19 games he's played. Turner Cooke was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, North Johnston hadn't done well against North Lenoir recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Panthers came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 7-3.
Reid Willoughby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Seth Scott, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. North Johnston is undefeated when Scott posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise.
North Johnston's win bumped their record up to 15-7. As for SouthWest Edgecombe, their victory bumped their record up to 18-2.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. SouthWest Edgecombe has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like North Johnston struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
SouthWest Edgecombe beat North Johnston 6-1 in their previous matchup back in March. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
