The Archbishop Murphy Wildcats will head out to face off against the Shorewood Stormrays at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Archbishop Murphy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Archbishop Murphy proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let Cascade Christian get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. While the Wildcats didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Not much got past Saylah Lopez, who gave up just three hits to keep Cascade Christian off the board. Lopez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Markella Vick was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.
Meanwhile, Shorewood entered their tilt with Shorecrest on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with a 10-5 victory over the Scots.
Ellie Van Horn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Van Horn was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lillian Perreault, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Charlotte Copacino was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Shorewood lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Shorewood's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Archbishop Murphy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Archbishop Murphy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Shorewood struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Archbishop Murphy skirted past Shorewood 4-2 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Stormrays turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
