Herron is 0-3 against Speedway since December of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Herron Achaeans will head out on the road to face off against the Speedway Sparkplugs at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Herron focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Thursday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 29 to 13 on the offensive boards, a fact Herron proved. They came out on top against Mooresville Christian by a score of 42-30. Given Herron's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Mooresville Christian is ranked 391st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jada Wright was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Jaycianna Clark, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 steals.
Meanwhile, Speedway had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 49-44 W over Monrovia on Friday. The victory was just what Speedway needed coming off of a 83-45 defeat in their prior contest.
Daniella Galvez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. Alex DeLisle was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 15 rebounds and 3 steals.
Herron's win bumped their record up to 6-0-1. As for Speedway, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Herron hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 52.5 points per game. It's a different story for Speedway, though, as they've been averaging only 49.4 per game. The only thing between Herron and another offensive beatdown is Speedway.
