If the Sumner Stingrays were feeling good off their 59-34 takedown of the Freedom Patriots last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sumner took a serious blow against Wharton on Friday, falling 63-33. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sumner has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Sumner had strong showings from Devin Baker, who scored eight points, and Sean Chaplin, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds.
Sumner has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-8 record this season. As for Wharton, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-7.
Sumner will take on Alonso at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Wharton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Steinbrenner at 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Steinbrenner will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while Wharton is ranked 142nd).
