On Wednesday, the Westside Rams faced the Pickens Blue Flame in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Westside walked away with a 39-29 win over Pickens. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Westside has scored all year.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gervonna Williams, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Khalia Hartwell, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Pickens' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hannah Campbell, who scored five points along with two steals. Campbell hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Owens, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Westside's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Pickens, their defeat ended a 16-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 12-2.
Westside will head out on the road to take on Easley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Easley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Wednesday. As for Pickens, they will be playing at home against Greenwood at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Greenwood is ranked fifth, while Pickens is ranked ninth).
