Softball Game Preview: Monument Valley Mustangs vs. Monticello Buckaroo

The Monument Valley Mustangs will take on the Monticello Buckaroo at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Monument Valley's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last five matchups.

Monument Valley barely beat Tuba City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Warriors on Monday. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Adrianna Dominguez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Meya-Raye Bahe, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nannabah Haskan, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.

Monument Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Monticello fell victim to Grand County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 16-0 to the Red Devils. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Buckaroo's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Monument Valley, their win bumped their record up to 13-5.

Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Monument Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .528. However, it's not like Monticello struggles in that department as they've averaged .551. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
