The Belmont Sentinels''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Roybal, falling 47-6. Belmont lost against Roybal in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 40-0 score last time.
Max Ibarra had an outrageously good game for Roybal as he threw for 279 yards and six touchdowns while completing 82.6% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Ibarra is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Gonzalo Chavarria did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 92 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Belmont's defeat was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Sadly, the team can't blame their woes on tough opposition, as that stretch included 1-8 West Adams and 1-8 University (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 38.9% over those games). As for Roybal, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Belmont will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mendez at 7:00 p.m. Mendez comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Roybal, they will head out on the road to face off against Contreras at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Contreras is ranked 996th, while Roybal is ranked 1010th).
