The Cross Stingrays will head out on the road to challenge the May River Sharks at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Cross is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Battery Creek hit Cross with a four-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Stingrays fell just short of the Dolphins by a score of 7-6.
Ryan Mayers put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Mayers was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
In other batting news, Ava Flavin was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Faith Gordon also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, May River had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 10-6 victory over the Cougars.
Caydon Swofford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, May River let Olivia Nagel and Brooke Rice run wild. Nagel went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Rice went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Nagel has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Kali Clark, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
May River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive contests.
May River's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Cross, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cross has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like May River struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
