The Stanton Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the Winside Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Stanton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday.
After only 21 points in their last game, Stanton made sure to put some points up on the board against the Jaguars. Stanton came out on top against the Jaguars by a score of 57-47.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stanton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison McKie, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McKie has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Hupp, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Winside's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 13th straight loss. The matchup between them and Wausa wasn't particularly close, with Winside falling 46-28. Winside found out winning isn't easy when you make six fewer threes than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Winside had strong showings from Ellie Topp, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds, and Hadleigh Schutt, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 50% of Winside's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Stanton's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Winside, they dropped their record down to 1-16 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Stanton have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Winside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Stanton against the Wildcats when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 58-29 victory. With Stanton ahead 31-11 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
