The St. Mary's Prep Eaglets are still undefeated this season after their game against the Marian Mustangs on Friday, but the Marian Mustangs came as close as anyone has to beating them. St. Mary's Prep sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-37 win over Marian. Given St. Mary's Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Marian is ranked 135th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Marian's loss came despite strong showings from Molly McLeod and Mckenzie Swanson. McLeod scored 14 points along with six rebounds, while Swanson scored 13 points. The matchup was Swanson's sixth in a row with at least ten points.
St. Mary's Prep pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Marian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, St. Mary's Prep and Cabrini will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Marian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gabriel Richard at 7:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
