The Sun Valley Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 56-43 to Porter Ridge. While losing is never fun, Sun Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while Porter Ridge is ranked 48th).
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyra Robinson, who scored 13 points. Zoe Bradley was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Porter Ridge found their leader in underclassman Ashanti Taylor, who scored 27 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sidney Blackwell, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Sun Valley's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Porter Ridge, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sun Valley will take on Cuthbertson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Porter Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Marvin Ridge at 6:00 p.m. Marvin Ridge is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
