Basketball Recap: Amelia Beer Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Belleville East

Mater Dei won the last time they faced Belleville East and things went their way on Sunday too. The Mater Dei Knights walked away with a 54-47 win over the Belleville East Lancers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mater Dei to victory, but perhaps none more so than Amelia Beer, who posted 17 points along with seven boards and three steals. Those 17 points gave Beer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maris Zurliene, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards.

Mater Dei smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

Mater Dei is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Belleville East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.

Mater Dei will be playing in front of their home fans against Central/Southeastern at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Central/Southeastern's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests. As for Belleville East, they will venture away from home to challenge Waterloo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
