After a string of five wins, the Castle View Sabercats's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 63-50 to Mountain Vista. While losing is never fun, Castle View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Mountain Vista is ranked seventh).
Castle View's loss came despite strong showings from Evan Mckean and Vitorio Dante. Mckean scored 24 points along with two steals, while Dante scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Dante has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played.
Cal Baskind was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with two steals for Mountain Vista. Baskind is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Oliver Junker, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Castle View's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Mountain Vista, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Castle View will square off against Chaparral at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Gavin Carter and Mckean. As for Mountain Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against Denver East at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
