The Arcata Tigers came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 73-45 victory over Hoopa Valley on the road. Given Arcata's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while Hoopa Valley is ranked 930th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Arcata's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kalani Butor, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Luke Lemke, who scored nine points along with five assists and five steals.
Hoopa Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Neil Moon, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Moon has scored all season. Lyle Mckinnon was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Arcata is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 16-10 record this season. As for Hoopa Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.
Arcata does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hoopa Valley also has no future games currently scheduled.
