Sterling came tearing into Monday's matchup with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down the Milby Buffs 82-64. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 86-53 back in December of 2024.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sterling to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braydon Hughes, who went 13 of 24 on his way to 33 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Those six steals gave Hughes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was J'Dyen Canady, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 boards.
Despite the defeat, Milby saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Isaiah Washington went 11 for 19 en route to 22 points and eight rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for Washington. The team also got some help courtesy of Delani Pestaina, who posted 16 points.
Sterling pushed their record up to 12-12 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 30.8% in those games and 28.3% outside of them. As for Milby, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-19 record this season.
Coincidentally, both will both be playing Spring Woods the next time they take the court. Sterling will host Spring Woods at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while Milby will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th.
