The Viera Hawks scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Melbourne 84-18 on the road. The victory was a breath of fresh air for Viera as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Viera was led to victory by Phantasia Lauriston and Lauren Bell. Lauriston scored 20 points along with eight assists and six rebounds, while Bell dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. Bell has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Yasmin Croom, who scored six points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Melbourne struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Viera racked up 24 assists.
Viera now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Melbourne, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Viera will take on Eau Gallie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Eau Gallie is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Melbourne, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Satellite at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Satellite is ranked 485th, while Melbourne is ranked 498th).
